Essential Vacation Packing List

You reviewed several vacation destinations and packages. You found the perfect destination, took care of travel and lodging. You have a pretty good idea of what you are going to do during your fantastic vacation to make it relaxing, enjoyable, and memorable. What about your vacation packing list?

Without taking time to create a vacation packing list, your perfect and carefree getaway might not end up being so perfect and carefree. It’s amazing how simply forgetting insect repellent, sunscreen, and (somehow!) your phone charger can really put a damper things. Who wants to spend time searching for a drugstore while on a dream vacation?

Forgetting just one vital item can quench the excitement of a vacation. It’s all too easy to overlook something, especially if you’re packing in a hurry. This guide will help you to create an Essential Vacation Packing List to keep your vacation on the right track.

The Absolute Basics
When all else is lost, you can still have a great time with just the bare necessities. First on your vacation packing list should be:

• Passports (check they are in date)
• Tickets, printed boarding passes or other travel documents
• Money, best to take an assortment of large and small bills (smaller bills for tipping)

Don’t forget to check the local exchange rate if travelling abroad. When carrying traveller’s checks, make sure proof of purchase is separate from the checks themselves. If you’re using plastic, note the number to call for ‘card lost or stolen abroad’ and keep it separate from the card. (Tip: if you’re vacationing abroad, let your credit-card company know ahead of departure so they can expect charges from out of the country.) And, if you’re carrying cash, divide it and pack it in a couple of different places.

Also, take a copy of your medical insurance details along with phone numbers and contacts in case of emergencies.

Clothes for Vacationing
If you’ll be going to a different climate, your Essential Vacation Packing List should include:

• For hot destinations – sandals, sun-hats, short sleeved shirts, shorts, sunglasses and don’t forget your bathing suit!
• For colder climates – warm hats, scarves and gloves, thick socks, light jacket and perhaps a heavier coat.

In mild or even hot locations, you may also consider a small umbrella, lightweight raincoat, and water resistant shoes. Check online to find out what the weather’s like at your destination. That’s also a good opportunity to find out about the local dress code, including what to wear if you decide to visit sacred sites such as cathedrals, mosques, or temples. (Have you made a list of the local attractions yet?)

Jewellery
Only take items that will not break your heart if they are lost. As for your costly or treasured accessories, including wristwatches… leave them behind in safety. In the case of engagement or wedding rings, if you take them off for an activity, don’t forget to put back on afterwards.

Toiletries, Medication, etc
Don’t forget hand sanitizer and antibacterial wipes on your Essential Vacation Packing List. You also might want your own shampoo, conditioner, shower-gel and lotions, rather than relying on local brands.

Small towels, facecloths, and robes may be a good idea. Will you need separate beach-towels? How about razors, toothbrush, mouthwash, and dental floss? (Consider buying these new, just for the vacation.) And don’t forget the insect repellent. You may want to buy or create a travellers’ first-aid kit including:

• Band-aids (various shapes and sizes)
• Tweezers
• Antiseptic ointment
• Insect-bite ointment
• Anti-diarrheal medication
• Rehydration salts (really)

Include any medications (like Advil) or other pills you usually take. UV protection and after-sun lotion are musts for sunny vacationing. If you’re skiing, you’ll need them just as much as if you’re in the desert.

Remember, in-flight security may require you to pack liquids, gels, pastes, etc. in your hold luggage (3oz or less).

Electrical Items
If you are taking phones, cameras, laptops, or MP3 players, your Essential Vacation Packing List should include the necessary peripherals such as chargers, headphones, memory cards, batteries and necessary cables. Check with your cell phone company before you leave regarding coverage (and call-rates) at your destination. Don’t forget to pack at least one universal electrical adapter if your destination has differently-configured sockets and plugs (your hotel will usually have this information).

Reading, Writing, & Entertainment
A notepad and pens are very useful, especially if travelling out of the country as you will have to complete documentation aboard the flight to your destination; and how about in-flight reading or games? If you plan to send postcards, make sure you have addresses for the recipients. You will need a valid drivers’ license if you want to rent a car. Finally, if you’re travelling in non-English-speaking areas, pack a phrasebook; it’s good manners to attempt ‘Please’ and ‘Thank you’ in the local tongue!

Also, don’t forget to check the Visitor’s Bureau of the area you are going to visit. Most cities have an online Visitor’s Bureau that will provide specific information about the area.

How to Find the Perfect Private Tour Guide

A few years ago, everybody used his travel agency just around the corner to organize their next vacation. Nowadays people more and more are using the internet to book a hotel or a flight. It’s really easy, fast and cheap to book flights and hotels over the internet. But to hire a private guide via Internet – why not?

In the last year there came up a few websites that help connecting travellers with locals. The idea is simple, the local person creates a profile with information about herself, her interests, her education, her experiences etc. The traveller then can find, share and book the local guide who is perfect for him or her.

What are the advantages of hiring someone via a website than via the traditional travel agent?

1. You get to know the private guide before you book, you can speak with him and can discuss details and all this before you go.

2. You decide which guide you want to do a tour with, not the travel agency is assigning you to the tour guide they earn the most commission

3. Did I say commission? Yes, exactly, when you book through a travel agency they earn commission. Normally they aren’t directly in contact with the guide, more over there is an incoming agency in between who will also gain some money. Probably the tour guide can give you directly a much better price than the travel agency. By buying the service directly, it’s like ‘fair trade’:
The tour guide get’s his money without giving the main part of his earnings to the travel agents. And you as a traveller won’t pay such a high price as you normally do paying at the travel agency. A win win for both.

There are several websites you help you find a local guide, but not all provide enough information; use a website where you’ll find detailed information about the tour guide like:

  • a copy of the tour guide licence if he is a professional tour guide
  • Reviews and ratings of previous clients. This ensures that the guide will be highly motivated to do a good service. If he won’t do a good service he will receive a bad user rating and won’t be booked again from other clients
  • Additional information about knowledge and competence of the local guide.

Finding Ideas on How to Plan the Perfect Vacations

If you are a person who is workaholic and you do not have enough time to spend the weekend with the whole family, you may want to have one or several days off for enjoying family vacation. Of course, it is very important to have a good plan just before you decide to go to certain place for the vacation. Ideally, you need to have a plan at least several weeks before the due date.

At first, you will need to decide where to go for family vacation. Once you have decided where you want to go on vacation, you can start to plan the things you want to see and do. After looking at the hotels, you can start to pick the top three and do a search on the internet for them. Try to find some reviews from people that have stayed there before. The hotels site is always going to tell you how great the hotel is, but if someone were annoyed enough to trash a place or tell you how great it was, you can be pretty sure that they are telling you the truth.

After that, it is time for you to pack the right clothes when you are on holiday. Unless you are going to someplace where the weather is always a constant, you need to make sure to pack clothes for both good and bad weather. This is very important to do in order to avoid any problems which can be occurred during your holiday.

Make Finding A Great Restaurant Part of Your Vacation Adventure

Part of the adventure of travel is finding new and memorable restaurants at your destination.

One of my favorite travel adventures was eating at Asti’s in New York City’s Greenwich Village the first time I went to New York (many, many years ago). I was thoroughly impressed by the opera-singing waiters, the delicious Italian food and the wall of photos and autographs of famous people who have eaten at Asti’s (it was said to have been President Franklin Roosevelt’s favorite restaurant).

Whether it is a sidewalk café in Paris, quaint little pub in a small English village or family-owned place in Little Italy; finding a great place to eat and observe the local scene may be the part of your vacation you treasure the most long after you return.

But how do you find such unique places when you travel? Clearly it helps to have a friend who lives there or a knowledgeable concierge at your hotel, but what is the adventure in that kind of travel? The true adventure is in finding the great places yourself.

Fortunately the web is full of sites to help you find your way to gastronomical delights in a strange city.

Tips For Planning a Trip to a Bali Hotel

Bali is a legendary destination for holidaymakers who wish to get away from it all in a paradise that is so picture perfect Hollywood has long adored it for on-location shoots. Planning a trip to this Indonesian destination, however, does demand careful attention to detail. Covering more than 5,000 square kilometers, this island is larger than it may appear in films.

So, what should holidaymakers keep in mind when they are planning a trip to a Bali hotel? These tips can help make a vacation to this tropical destination one that will never be forgotten:

* Take the time to carefully choose the actual destination – Bali is large enough that it tends to take more than one trip to see it all. For first-time goers, it’s a good idea to carefully research destinations to center a trip around. Interior cities like Ubud, for example, offer some incredible sights and plenty of culture, but they will simply not provide the beach appeal stops like Kuta or Nusa Dua boast. To make a good choice to fit personal tastes, take the time to review individual destinations and the attractions they offer.

* Set a preliminary tour itinerary – Whilst it is very likely that plans will change based on whim once the destination is reached, it’s a good idea to at least list out sights and attractions to see during a trip to a Bali hotel. Having a rough idea or even a few booked and paid-for guided tours can ensure that the major sights in any destination are taken in and enjoyed.

* Set a realistic budget – Bali is a destination that is much more affordable than many people realize. Even so, it is quite wise to set a realistic budget for the stay. Beyond travel expenses, make sure to have enough money set aside for a good Bali hotel, food, mementos and attractions.

* Choose a hotel with care – There are many different kinds of hotels in Bali to choose from. Take the time review the options in a particular destination closely and balance them against personal needs. Families, for example, might better benefit from a suite or even a villa to provide a little more room and privacy. Standard Bali hotels, however, do offer a lot of amenities and a level of service that can make even budget locations seem luxurious.

* Understand what the weather will be like – Although Bali is considered balmy no matter the time of year, there are certain times when more than a little rain might be expected. When planning a trip to this island, be sure to know weather predictions before packing.

* Make sure to pack all necessities – Whilst Bali hotels can help guests obtain items they may have left at home, it’s always best to pack necessities with care. To enjoy this destination without worries, make a list of necessities and cross them off as items are packed.

Spending a vacation in a Bali hotel is dream for many. When this destination is on the agenda, planning in advance can help ensure a trip that is truly spectacular.

Best Family Vacation Preparation? Help Is Here!

Personally we think cruises are teriffic choices for that family vacation or reunion, because they allow everyone to get together with lots of different activities for various age groups.

You get to go to places without having to change hotels – no need to pack and unpack. Those with young kids, you know what we mean. Besides, a cruise also offers everything, including duty-free shopping, cabaret shows, discotheques, karaoke, spa treatments, bowling, jacuzzis, swimming pools and golf courses!

Preparing for any family vacation with children can be a daunting task. However, there are some things that you can do to make the holiday go as smooth and pleasurable as possible! It is always fun to include all family members in the discussion about the destination. Experts agree that you will have a much better time if you plan your trip according to the ages and interests of the children in the family.

A good way to do this is to have your children prepare a wish list of all of the places they would like to go, things they would like to do and sights they would like to see.

After reviewing and discussing their wish lists, it will be easier for you to decide on a destination for your last minute family vacation that will make everyone happy. Whether you are traveling by plane, train, or automobile, there is nothing more difficult than to help children survive the hours of travel, you will have to think ahead.

Some good things to have on hand for long travel trips include handheld electronic games, favorite toys and books, snacks that are not too sugary (too much sugar will make it even harder for the kids to sit still), and something to drink such as juice or water. If going by car, you might want to also take along a Frisbee or a ball, to allow them a way to get rid of excess energy at rest stops.

The Benefits of Vacation Apartments Over Hotels

While hotels may be the ideal place to stay when you are on a short hurried trip, they are definitely not the only kind of accommodation available to you on a holiday. This guide will help you understand why renting an apartment on a holiday is a very good idea.

Many people overlook the option of renting a vacation apartment because they are unsure of what they are getting involved with; however, staying in a vacation apartment has a number of advantages that a hotel simply cannot provide.

The most important reason why you should choose a vacation rental apartment is that it provides a degree of privacy that you will never have at a hotel. Since it will function as your own apartment for the duration of your stay, you have the ability to come and go as you please and you will not be disturbed by room service or house keeping during your stay. This is especially ideal for honeymooners and people on a romantic getaway, where privacy is of the utmost importance.

For couples that are travelling with children, they will be able to escape into their own bedroom after a long day out with the kids. If luxury is what you are looking for, you can rent a luxury apartment that has a private hot tub or a Jacuzzi, and possibly a pool, gym, tennis courts and many more amenities than most hotels are able to provide.

People travelling in big groups will be able to save a lot of money by staying at a vacation apartment. When you choose to stay in a hotel, you will only be able to accommodate two, or maybe three people in a room, and suites can prove to be incredibly expensive. Instead of this, hiring out an apartment for the duration of your stay, with 3 or 4 bedrooms will allow you to provide accommodation for 10 or more people, and you will be able to split the cost of a single apartment, thereby saving yourself a lot of money.

Hotel Accommodation in Cornwall – Neverland at Budget Price

When you travel for business or pleasure, what type of accommodations do you go for? Merriam-Webster(r) defines an accommodation as, “something supplied for convenience or to satisfy a need,” which is typically related to lodging and its related services. The word is based on the Latin word referring to something that has been “made fit.” Which type of accommodations is fit for you? Most customers go for those that offer low prices and good customer service. Appreciation of those two things, however, differs among different people. To most of us are average Joes, the thought of spending $5,000 a night for a hotel accommodation is absurd. On the other hand, the idea of staying in a hotel without television in the rooms seems equally ridiculous. So, your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to find a hotel accommodation in Cornwall that fits you!

There seems to be an unlimited number of ways to fund our trips: traveler’s checks, credit cards, debit cards, and good old-fashioned cash. But while it is now easier to access our money, remember that we are still limited by credit card limits, bank account balances, and how much we have in traveler’s checks. From Cupboards to Cash
After you determine how much you need for you vacation, including a hotel accommodation in Cornwall, you need a plan of attack to reach your goal. Here are some tips:

* Invite your extended family members to split the costs of the trip. Of course, end any family feuds before you go. Also, plan the itinerary before you leave, so everyone is happy.

* For those who have young kids, choose tourist spots that have free children’s admission, and restaurants with free children’s meals.

* Before you take off, eat everything in your cupboards and pantry. Reduce your grocery shopping trips, eating out, and junk food runs a few months before leaving for vacation.

* Try selling your unwanted books, CDs, and the like on the Net to get extra bucks for vacation.

* Save any gift cards and coupons that you can use while travelling. This can save you a ton of money, especially when dining out at restaurants.

Accommodating Accommodations
When travelling abroad, you will need to budget for lodging as well. So when looking for a hotel accommodation in Cornwall, do your homework first. Pick one that falls into an affordable price range for you. Many people like to book online because of the convenience and lower rates. In fact, several independent hotels allow you to book online.
